There is a reason that the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin is Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction.  It has developed into a fun filled brewery journey for all of your senses.  Savor the hoppy smells, enjoy the interactive experiences that explain the brewing process, appreciate the views from the extraordinarily designed building, talk with the staff and fellow guests, and of course sample the delicious beer.  The sixth sense here is shopping at the store.

The Storehouse brings in record numbers of visitors each year, and is not moving anytime soon.  Arthur Guinness started brewing ales in 1759 at this St. James’s Gate Brewery. That year he signed a 9,000-year lease that is displayed on the entry level floor.

I highly recommend a visit to the Storehouse if you have any interest in brewing, advertising, or just want to learn why Guinness is the most popular Irish beer.

If you want to take this journey to the next level the Connoisseur Experience is a must.  The Connoisseur Experience is an added activity to your visit that must be booked in advance.

At your designated time you will head to the luxurious private Connoisseur Bar for a hour long tasting experience like no other.  With a max of 16 participants these guests and your expert staff member will become your new friends.

On the day of our Connoisseur Experience Colm was our bartender.  He did an excellent job engaging the group with history, laughter and learning.  As we enjoyed samples of four popular Guinness beers he explained the differences between them, how they are created, and where they are sold.

Along they way you learn why Guinness happens to taste better in some places.  You will hear about the award-winning invention that allows Guinness to be distributed in cans.  I had no idea how the Guinness Book of Records started until Colm told us the delightful story of it’s creation. To top it off, participants get to practice the perfect pour.  When you master the pour you will be rewarded with enjoying your personally poured Guinness and receive a certificate of completion.

The session was a sensory journey filled with tales and traditions and it was the highlight of my day.  Sure, you can visit the Guinness Storehouse and enjoy yourself, but why not take this part of your Ireland journey to the next level and have a truly unique experience.
