I recently visited Universal Orlando Resorts new water theme park, Volcano Bay. For this blog I’m not going to tell you about the best rides, what to eat, or where to shop at Volcano Bay. I want to give you a suggestion to have the most relaxing and stress-free experience at this Polynesian themed park. The magic word is cabana.
A stand-alone family cabana (holds up to 6 guests)
We had 10 people in our group the day we visited the park and wanted to make sure we had a designated area to meet up, be able to safely store our belongings, relax to have meals, and get a respite from the sun and crowds. I was able to get one of the two family cabanas that hold up to 16 people (I would say it holds 10-12 comfortably).
Upon entry to the park we stopped at the Concierge desk where we checked in and a concierge attendant took us to our designated cabana. Each cabana has an attendant that checks on you throughout the day to make sure you have fresh towels, makes sure your tablet is working, takes away trash, and can assist with any other concerns. There is also a waiter that stops by every 15 to 20 minutes to take any orders you need for food or drinks, so that you do not need to go and wait in any food/drink lines.

The cabanas are spread throughout the park. We were very happy with our cabana location in the River Village right behind the Krakatu volcano because the kids loved to go inside the volcano where there was special lighting effects, sprays and jets of water, amusing sound effects, and they chatted with the fire spirit Vol inside the volcano who even knew all of their names by the end of the day.
Each of the rustic yet elegant cabanas comes with a guest services tablet designed to use with the TapuTapu wristbands, so guests can add themselves to the virtual lines without having to walk all around the park and tap in at the totems of the specific ride they are looking to go on.

The cabana comes with a locker, a refrigerator with bottles of water, a fruit-and-snack tray, and a big pile of towels (which will be refreshed by the attendant as needed).

It was nice to have the wooden locker cabinet to store our wallets and phones in without having to go into the crowded locker buildings. The refrigerator was key to store our drinks and food when it was time to head out to our rides once our TapuTapu alerted us it was our turn. And it was nice that we did not have to bring our own towels or pay the $5 per towel rental fee.

The cabana was equipped with a ceiling fan and outlets for charging devices. We had benches with cushions to lounge on and a dining table. With the ceiling fan and background island music streaming throughout the day I was easily able to take an afternoon nap after a yummy lunch and a few adult beverages, something I have never been able to do in a water park before.

Volcano Bay has 11 single cabanas, 18 two-story ones, and just 2 family units. Around 30 days before your travel the cabanas are available to book by calling 1-877-489-8068. The cabanas are non-refundable and need to paid in-full at time of booking. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to get a cabana without an advanced reservation.
The 2-story cabanas
How much you pay for a cabana depends on when you go and what kind of unit you get. A single cabana, which holds up to 6 people, comes in either a stand-alone building (for more privacy) or the ground floor of a two-story unit, both start at $159.99 and go all the way up to $449.99 per day. The upper level will cost you anywhere from $199.99 to $549.99. A family suite cabana holds up to 16 people and will automatically grant you a large stand-alone building. Pricing here starts at $299.99 and can reach $599.99 per day.
If you find that the cabanas are already booked, or if you don’t want to pay the price tag for a cabana, premium seating is another option where you will have a designated area in the park. Premium chair service gets visitors a pair of private cushioned loungers with adjustable shade, a lockbox and an attendant who provides fresh towels and food and beverage service. Just like the cabanas it is best to call in and reserve these 30 days before your arrival. The prices are date-specific ranging from $29.99 to $69.99 per day.

With a little planning and extra $$$ a cabana can make for a relaxing day at a fun, yet busy water park.
