Tips to keep in mind to pack smart and be prepared to travel:
- Have a good, sturdy suitcase (not too big) and a durable carry-on bag.
- I purchase travel gear from eBags. They have quality items, great pricing and helpful product reviews.
- Start the packing process at least a week before you leave.
Lay out items in a designated area every time you think of something you might need. You will find the need to add and take away things over this week.
- Don’t wait until the night before when you are tired and overwhelmed to do final inventory.
- Use packing cubes. They help keep rolled clothing and small items organized.
- Wear your bulkiest pair of shoes on the plane.
- If you have shoes that get dirty put a shower cap on the bottoms to keep the dirt from getting all over your other items.
- Don’t pack a lot of jewelry. It takes up space and is something that can get stolen or lost.
- A scarf/shawl can be used for many things (keeping you warm, covering yourself at historical sites that have dress codes, or dressing up an outfit).
- Pack a tote bag at the bottom of your suitcase (for shopping during trip, separating dirty clothes, or use as an airplane carry-on for gifts purchased).
- Bring a wet/dry bag and a handful of Ziplock bags. You never know when you will need them, and they don’t take up a lot of space.
- Travel water bottle (use to hydrate and/or store breakables and jewelry).
- Travel wine bag (great for bringing home wine or breakable gifts in checked luggage).
- International adaptors.
- Make copies of all documents (passport, reservations, credit card) and store in a separate spot from originals.
If you are traveling for an extensive period of time or have to bring additional items (i.e. golf clubs or skis) that you just don’t want to take to the airport, we have access to luggage services where we can set up shipping your items from home to your destination ahead of time.
Being prepared and appropriately packed can help alleviate travel stressors. Start early and pack smart.
Keep dreaming. We’re here when you’re ready.
